This is my page dedicated to the A+ computer technician program. I passed the Core exam on 16 July 99 with a score of 82%, and I passed the DOS
/Windows exam on 30 July 99 with a score of 74%. If you want to download my brain dump for the exam, here it is. It is in MS Word format, so if you have Office 97, you're all set. If you don't, You can view both my DOS/Windows and my Core brain dumps in HTML format.
05 September 2000 - I finally added the brain dumps that I have collected in the A+ Brain Dump section. I will be adding the ones for the Network+ section sometime this week.
31 January 2001 - When the material starts to present itself, I will be adding a section for the Linux+ exams.
2 Apr 2001 - I created a quiz program using the Perl programming language, that will run on the Linux operating system. I will be posting the code for it here in a day or so. At the moment it will only work on the Linux OS, but I am in the progress of porting it to run on Windows. To get the Perl interpreter for Windows, you can check out either ActiveState or IndigoStar which provide the Perl interpreter for Windows. Both are completely free downloads.
3 Apr 2001 - The Linux version of my QuizTaker program can be downloaded here. Please look at the README file for more information on it. I will be posting the Windows version this weekend. Please send me any questions you may have about the QuizTaker program, and I will be happy to assist you.
9 Apr 2001 - I posted QuizTaker 1.0 for Windows on Saturday, and today I posted version 1.02 for Linux, which now supports a different question file format. Enjoy!
16 Apr 2001 - Posted QuizTaker-V1.04 for Linux. Will be posting version 1.04 for Windows this weekend.
23 Apr 2001 - Had problems with the Window version 1.04, so it didn't make it up on the site. However, I have just posted Version 1.06 for the Linux OS. I will be postponing version 1.04 for Windows, and going straight into 1.06, to keep the versions in-sync with one another.
11 May 2001 - Finally completed testing on QuizTaker32 for Windows. Version 1.06 is now the official release for it, and is now caught up to the Linux version. The zip file is now posted. Enjoy.
18 Jul 2001 - Version 1.08 for Linux is now officially posted. I have now included a menu based interface to the program. The next version that I release, should have a graphical user interface similar to a Windows application. I will be using the Tk module to accomplish this on Linux, and either Tk or the Win32::GUI module for the Windows port. I will be posting 1.08 for Windows some time within the next couple of weeks.
19 Jul 2001 - I managed to finish the Windows version of QuizTaker this afternoon, so I will be posting it tomorrow evening. I will also be posting another version of 1.08 for Linux/Unix
31 Jul 2001 - I moved all of the graphics and web pages to my new site on the perlmonk.org server. My thanks goes out to jcwren of perlmonks.org for providing the members of that site a place to call home on the net. I will be doing some upgrades to the site eventually, such as including some cgi scripts, and other little things.
22 Aug 2001 - Added the first of two cgi scripts to this page, so that I can track the number of downloads for the two programs, plus the number of page hits, for each of the brain dumps. I will be adding a form later, for people to fill out if they are having problems with the QuizTaker program.
25 Aug 2001 - Ok, here is the link to the trouble form for QuizTaker. I just completed work on it this afternoon. I have also completed the other scripts that I needed to finish as well.
2 Sep 2001 - Noticed an error in the logs with my trouble form, and corrected it.
21 Sep 2001 - In light of the events that have happened over the last week, I decided to post this poem, written by my wife, that I think may touch us all.
20 Oct 2001 - And here is version 1.01 of Games::QuizTaker module. All that was added to it was a README file.
6 Nov 2001 - Games::QuizTaker V1.02 is now available for download. I have also uploaded it to CPAN as well.
19 Nov 2001 - I posted version 1.03 of Games::QuizTaker to the CPAN a few days ago, and I should be coming out with version 1.04 in the next few days.
30 Dec 2001 - I haven't had the chance to update the site recently, but at this time Games::QuizTaker is at version 1.06. And I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year.
17 Jan 2002 - Games::QuizTaker-1.07 was released on CPAN on 15 January, and I am just finishing up a ppd file, so that you can add this site as a repository for ActiveState Perl users. I should have the ppd file finished this weekend.
18 Jan 2002 - Ok, the repository is set, and here are some instructions on how to add the site as a repository for ActiveState Perl users. Enjoy, and please remember to email me if you have any questions or problems.
Apr 2002 - Games::QuizTaker-1.08 was released today, and last week I noticed that ActiveState has already beaten me to creating a PPD file that actually works, so I will be de-activating my ppd repository.
17 Jun 2002 - On 8 April, I was called back to active duty with the U.S. Air Force, so I haven't been able to update the page much. I expect to remain on active duty until April of 2003. Fortunately, my base isn't to far from my home, so I can travel on my days off. I will try to update when I have time.
8 Jul 2002 - I posted version 1.1 of the Games::QuizTaker module to CPAN a few days ago, and as of the 21st of last month, I became a member of USEnix association and The System Administrators Guild
2 Oct 2002 - As of September 30, I am a civilian again, so I will start working on this site again. Please email me with any suggestions you might have to help improve this site. Thanks.
1 Jan 2003 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I have recreated the ActiveState PPM Repository here, as they don't have any documentation for my most recent addition to CPAN, Logger::Simple, which implements basic logging functions for applications. Here are the directions from the ActiveState documentation on how to set a new repository within PPM.
3 Aug 2007 - Sadly, I have had very little time to really update this page. A lot of the information that is here is not really relevant, especially the information for the A+ brain dumps, and probably for the others as well. I did manage to correct some issues with the CGI scripts that I noticed. The server was upgraded and the link to the scripts was broken. I have also added some new graphics as well.
